long does training take?
The time it takes to complete training
will depend on the school or training program you attend: typically
anywhere from three to six weeks. Some schools and companies offer
accelerated programs designed to get you on the road quicker. We

How
much can I earn as a truck
driver?
Most truck drivers are paid per mile,
so how much you make depends on how much you drive. Company truck
drivers can make as much as 50 cents a mile, while owner operators
can make upwards of $1.50 per mile.
What
is a CDL?
A CDL refers to a commercial driver’s
license which is required in order to be employed in the United
States as a commercial truck driver. A CDL is issued by the state in
which you live and you must successfully pass a writing and driving
test in order to obtain one.
Is
truck driving school required to
get a CDL?
No, you are not required to attend
truck driving school in order to test for a CDL; however, it is
highly recommended. Truck driving school will give you the
comprehensive instruction and training needed to successfully pass
the test.
What
does training consist of?
Most programs consist of general
classroom instruction followed by behind-the-wheel training. The
classroom instruction will teach you about driving procedures,
company policies, and federal regulations. Driving training is
designed to give you hands-on experience in safely operating a
semi-truck and is usually done with an experienced, senior driver.
Will
I have to move in order to
attend training?
No,
relocation is not required. We
will help you find a program near you. However, most schools offer
lodging for students for the duration of the program if you do decide
to attend a program out-of-state.
How
much does training cost?
The
cost of training will depend on the
specific school you choose. Most offer tuition programs to help you
pay for the training such as tuition reimbursement, financial
assistance, or sponsored training. When searching for the right
training school, inquire about what financial aid programs they have
in place for students.
What
are the different types of
truck driving jobs available?
There
are a number of different driving
jobs available. This includes long-haul, which entails driving all over
the 48 continental states, and short-haul, which is usually regional
driving. Within those broad categories, there are dedicated and
irregular routes. Dedicated is where you make the same route each
time while irregular is where you may be driving a different route
every time you make a trip. The types of truck driving jobs that are
available will largely depend on where you live and what trucking
companies are hiring. Many local and regional driving positions tend
to fill up quickly since they require less time away from home.
